The hottest moments and memes of the year 2017 !! Blessing memes

It’s hard to keep track of all the memes that are out there. By the hour, depending on how up in arms the internet is at that moment, there’s always something that can be „memeable.” Described as a humorous image, video or piece of text that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users, memes often go in and out of fashion faster than you can say I dOnT eVeN kNoW hEr LiKe ThAt. Memes are used to express, enjoy, and most importantly, throw shade. Salt Bae stole our hearts, Roll Safe gave us invaluable advice and yelling Meryl Streep gave us the confidence to shout our innermost thoughts, even if they were mostly just cheesy song lyrics.

We searched high and low through the depths of the internet and uncovered the greatest memes of 2017 (so far) just for you.

The Future Liberals Want

In March, a far-right Twitter account tweeted a picture of a woman in a niqab and a man in drag along with the caption „this is the future liberals want.” What was meant as a clear insult immediately backfired with Twitter users announcing that this is TOTALLY the future liberals want. When Twitter is on one, they really commit, and soon enough a liberal fantasy utopia was born.

Obamacare v GOP Replacement

Remember back in March when the Republicans unveiled their half-assed replacement for Obamacare and it royally sucked? Everyone was sad, people were genuinely fearing for their lives and their future, and things generally looked like they were going to shit. Enter the memes—and more specifically, the “Obamacare vs. GOP Replacement” meme, which is slightly missing the point of the catastrophic events looming in front of us.

But it certainly helped take the edge off. For those somehow not in the know, the basic format is this: take one picture of a celebrity, fictional character, etc. and pit it against another, similar but undeniably worse object. The meme hit perhaps its peak form with one of the earliest examples: Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight v. Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad.

Singing Shaq

There’s no better feeling than rolling your windows down, driving down a highway and singing along to your favorite song or whatever is playing on the radio. Luckily for us, Singing Shaq has brought that feeling straight to the internet. Have a song stuck in your head? Feel the need to share it with the world? Tweet the lyrics next to the picture of Shaq open mouthed and let the meme do the talking.—Elizabeth Gulino

Mocking Spongebob

Coming from one of the most popular TV shows, for kids and adults, Spongebob Squarepants memes have taken over the internet. Mocking Spongebob is an excuse for everyone who has ever wanted to fuck with someone on the internet to go ahead and do so. The mixed capitalization response implies a sarcastic, mocking tone that can be used for almost anything. Twitter users put their own personal spin on what to mock from tHe ChAiNsMoKeRs ArE sO gOoD to trolling Netflix by saying aRe YoU sTiLl WaTcHiNg?. Mocking Spongebob is the perfect meme for when you’re feeling petty and want everyone to know it.—Elizabeth Gulino
